Diocese of Arlington announces sweeping new restrictions on Latin Mass
#2
An email republished by The Remnant by a parishioner in the Arlington Diocese to Bp. Burbridge in response to this crackdown:

Quote:Your Excellency,

Though I am certain you will never read or see this email I must express my sadness and anger regarding your cowardly decision to suppress the traditional Mass in your diocese. I have been a long term member of Holy Trinity parish in Gainesville, VA. Our 12:30 Mass attendance ranges from 500-700 people every Sunday. Now you have given us the privilege of attending the traditional Mass in an auditorium at a Montessori School.

Thank you for punishing faithful Catholics. You are a hireling, you are a coward and much more but decorum prevents me from writing anything further.

I am a father of 12 children (one of whom is a priest in a traditional religious order), a grandfather of 12 and counting. I am 100% pro-life, never contracepted, never voted for a pro-abortionist, believe in the Real Presence, pray many Rosaries daily, financially contribute to my parish (that will end now) and faithfully follow the precepts of Holy Mother Church. I don't deserve to be treated less than a second class citizen.

Your judgement will be awful and you will bring down God's holy wrath upon the Arlington Diocese. Shame on you, you weak and pathetic excuse for a successor of the apostles.

In all sincerity,
Seth F. Stein

While the man's emotions are certainly understandable, this is why Archbishop Lefebvre kept things at the 'doctrinal level' rather than the emotional. It wasn't just about the 'Latin Mass' alone - it is about putting oneself to be in a state of doctrinal contradiction:
  • “Availing ourselves of the Indult is tantamount to putting ourselves into a state of contradiction because at the same time that Rome gives the Fraternity of St. Peter, for example, or Le Barroux Abbey and other groups authorization to say the Mass of All Time, they also require young priests to sign a profession of faith in which the spirit of the Council must be accepted. It is a contradiction: the spirit of the Council is embodied in the New Mass. How is it possible to desire to preserve the Mass of all time while accepting the spirit that destroys this Mass of All Time? It is completely contradictory.” sspx.org/en/archbishop-lefebvre-indult-mass
  • "We must absolutely convince our faithful that it is no more than a maneuver, that it is dangerous to put oneself into the hands of Conciliar bishops and Modernist Rome. It is the greatest danger threatening our people. If we have struggled for twenty years to avoid the Conciliar errors, it was not in order, now, to put ourselves in the hands of those professing these errors.” (One Year After the Consecrations, July-August, 1989)
"So let us be confident, let us not be unprepared, let us not be outflanked, let us be wise, vigilant, fighting against those who are trying to tear the faith out of our souls and morality out of our hearts, so that we may remain Catholics, remain united to the Blessed Virgin Mary, remain united to the Roman Catholic Church, remain faithful children of the Church."- Abp. Lefebvre
