Christmas Season/Epiphany Season 2022

Merry Christmas and Blessed Epiphany to All!

We are now ten years since the revolution within the Society of St. Pius X took place in 2012 by a well-organized coup d’etat, however, not from the bottom, but from the top!

Remember the phrases?
  • “The fact of going to Rome doesn’t mean that we agree with them. But it’s theChurch! And it’s the true Church!” (Bishop Fellay, Flavigny, 09/02/2012).
  • “The Religious Liberty of the Council is limited, very limited.” (Bp. Fellay 5/11/12).
  • “We are in the process of making the Council’s errors into super-heresies, as though it is becoming absolute evil, worse than anything,...this is serious, because such a caricature no longer corresponds to reality” (Bp. Fellay 10/07/12).
  • “The Priestly Society of St. Pius X rejoices to see the Church regain her liturgical tradition...the Priestly Society of St. Pius X extends its deep gratitude to the Sovereign Pontiff for this great spiritual benefit “ (Bp. Fellay 07/07/2007 On the occasion of “Summorum Pontificum”).
  • “Anyway, the Pope said that it is only a problem of canonical discipline. An act of Rome will suffice to say it is finished and we will return to the Church. It will come. I am very optimistic!” (Bp. Fellay, Interview with Les Nouvelles Caledoniennes, 12/27/10).
  • Unfortunately, in the present situation of the Society (i.e. the Society members’ resistance to the steps of making an Agreement with Modernist Rome) the new Declaration will not be accepted...I committed myself, despite rather strong opposition within the ranks of the Society, and at the expense of significant troubles. And I intend to continue to make every effort to pursue this path in order to arrive at the necessary clarifications… May Your Holiness deign to believe my filial devotion and dearest desire to serve Holy Church.” (Bp. Fellay Letter to Pope Benedict XVI, 06/17/2012).
  • “There was a questioning of authority [by priests in the Society loyal to Archbishop Lefebvre], a radical challenge, because it accused it of no longer leading the Society towards its end.” (Bp. Fellay, Cor Unum, November 2012).
  • “The entire Tradition of the Catholic Faith must be the criterion and guide for understanding the teachings of the Vatican Council II which Council in turn clarifies— i.e., deepens and make more explicit over time— certain aspects of the life of the Church that are implicitly present in them or not yet conceptually formulated” (Doctrinal Declaration April 15, 2012).
  • “We declare that we acknowledge the validity of the Sacrifice of the Mass and of the Sacraments when celebrated with the intention of doing what the Church does according to the rites indicated in the typical editions of the Roman Missal and of the Rituals of the Sacraments legitimately promulgated by Popes Paul VI and John Paul II” (Doctrinal Declaration 04/15/12).

These are just a few highlights proving the new direction of the “hermeneutics of continuity” regarding Vatican II and the “new attitude” that Bishop Fellay called for towards Modernist Rome. Did this new thinking just suddenly pop up out of nowhere in desperation for an Agreement? No. It was long prepared. Let us not forget GREC!


Reduction to Silence

G.R.E.C. is an acronym meaning in French: Groupe de Reflexion Entre Catholiques (A Group for Reflection Among Catholics), which was a monthly gathering of priests of the SSPX, of Ecclesia Dei and of the official hierarchy, and some laymen with the goal to soften the Catholic Resistance of Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre. One of its founders was Fr. Michel Lelong, who wrote a book titled: For The Necessary Reconciliation. It reveals the results of twelve years of discussions from 1998 to 2010. Fr. Lelong who was deeply attached to the Second Vatican Council and prompted the Society to request the lifting of the “excommunications” in order to facilitate a reconciliation with Modernist Rome, had these weasel words to say:
Quote:At that time, all too often aggressive and polemical points-of-view were being expressed both on the part of the Catholics attached to Tradition, as well as on that of those who claim to follow the spirit of the Council. These were not contributing to bring about the climate of peace and mutual confidence which is necessary in the search for a true reconciliation. The Society of St. Pius X must understand that, even if it has much to bring to the Church of Rome, it also has much to receive from it. Therefore it must stop rejecting Vatican II in its entirety

The leaders of GREC also called for a ceasefire:
Quote:We ask the leaders of the Society to cease declarations and polemical articles which criticize the Holy See.

Abp. Lefebvre warned his sons about this slippery trap!
Quote:When they say that they (i.e. those joining Conciliar Rome) have lost nothing, it is false. They have lost the possibility of refuting Rome. They can no longer say anything! Having been given the favors that have been accorded to them, they must keep quiet. It is now impossible for them to denounce the errors of the Conciliar Church (Abp. Lefebvre, Fideliter, no. 79, p. 3).

So, for those who try to say “nothing has changed in the SSPX since 2012” and insist "it's the exact same old SSPX,” are deluded! The shower of favors from Popes Benedict & Francis (i.e. “lifting” of the excommunications, Summorum Pontificum, jurisdiction for confessions, marriages and holy orders, etc.) explains the reason for the overly-subdued position of the Conciliar-SSPX against the scandals of Pope Francis honoring the pagan idol “Pachamama” in St. Peter’s Basilica, the scandalous neutrality of Fr. Pagliarani & leaders on the immoral vaccinations derived from hundreds of murdered babies, the toned down denouncement of Vatican II & the New Mass, the absence of any endorsement of the clear statements of Abp. Vigano, etc., etc. Again, as Abp. Lefebvre forewarned: 
Quote:Having been given the favors that have been accorded to them, they must keep quiet! (ibid.)


Lay Down the Weapons

Does anyone remember the Angelus editorial letter of Fr. Wenger in 2012? It called for a less militant spirit and the new, branded version of the Angelus would, from then on, focus
on Gregorian Chant, architecture and non-abrasive subjects. In other words, off with the boxing gloves! On with the ballerina slippers!

Let us refresh our minds with some more of the great counter-Revolutionary statements of Archbishop Lefebvre, who died with his boxing gloves on!

First, he highly praised the Si Si No No articles that warred courageously against the scandals of Modernist Rome and constantly exposed the Liberalism of the periti at the Council. The Angelus stopped publishing these great works in 2012. No more to be found!


Drop Distinction of Two Churches

Bishop Fellay proceeded to blur the distinction of the “Conciliar Church” from the Catholic Church which Abp. Lefebvre constantly maintained, for truth and clarity. This distinction of “Neo-Modernist Rome” and “Catholic/Eternal Rome” is the first sentence in his 1974 Declaration! If this distinction does not exist then of course, the Society must seek recognition and get approval from Rome as did the Fraternity of St. Peter, the Institute of Christ the King, etc.


Religious Liberty Limited?
As for the Error of Religious Liberty of Vatican II (Dignitatis Humanae) being “very limited”, this is one point Abp. Lefebvre fought, vehemently! Do these words of his give any impression of mitigating this monstrous error?

Quote:Neither God nor truth changes. What the Church has defined or solemnly condemned for centuries cannot change. That is why we absolutely reject this new doctrine which demands an agnostic civil society as if it were a liberty of man in religious matters when, at the most, it should be a tolerance on the part of civil authorities and can never be a natural right. (Abp. Lefebvre, Econe, May 22, 1987).

Do the following adjectives that the good Popes repeatedly used to denounce Religious Liberty as taught by Vatican II sound “limiting?”

“Most pernicious,” 
“absurd,”
“erroneous,”
“insanity,” 
“contrary to the doctrines of the Church, Scriptures, & the Fathers, ”
“reproved,”
“proscribed,” 
and “condemned.” (cf. Quanta Cura of Pius IX). 

Do they sound like they are downplaying or limiting this Error?


The Kingship of Christ

For the leadership of the SSPX (i.e. Fr. Pagliarani and Bp. Fellay), the Mass is now the exclusive focus of the Battle. But Abp. Lefebvre never lost sight of the proper order of things:
Quote:...That’s what makes our opposition [ to current Rome ], and that’s why we cannot get along. This is not primarily the issue of the Mass , because the Mass is just one consequence of the fact that they wanted to get closer to Protestantism and thus transform worship, sacraments, catechism, etc. The real fundamental opposition is the Kingship of Our Lord Jesus Christ!Oportet Illum regnare,” St. Paul tells us, “He must Reign!” They say: “No!” We say: “Yes!” with all the Popes! ( Abp. Lefebvre, “Fideliter” p. 70, 1993).

Bp. Fellay signed the Doctrinal Declaration in 2012 (never yet retracted) in order to solve the canonical problem and gain “unilateral recognition,” attaching to it the infamous “Six Conditions For An Agreement With Rome” regardless of Modernist Rome’s refusal to convert to Tradition. This was never the case with our Founder:
Quote:It is not surprising that we have not come to an understanding with Rome. That will not be possible as long as Rome does not return to the Faith in the Kingship of Our Lord Jesus Christ! [...] We are in opposition on a point of the Catholic Faith! (Abp. Lefebvre, Conference at Sierre, Nov., 27, 1988, Fideliter, no. 68, p. 12).


New Mass Legitimately Promulgated?

Regarding the word “legitimate” when applied to the New Mass and New Sacraments, the Conciliar-SSPX accepts that they are “legitimately promulgated.” Abp. Lefebvre thought otherwise:
Quote:We are not saying that the New Mass is heretical, nor that it is invalid, but we refuse to say that it is legitimate, that it is perfectly orthodox (Communicantes, August, 1985).

Now, “legitimate” means conformity to rule or principle; lawfulness. If then “legitimacy” is the quality of what is in conformity with the law, a thing is also “lawful” when it is in conformity with the law. In other words, the expressions “legitimate,” “lawful,” and “licit” are synonymous. A Resistance priest of the Society concluded the following in his study on the Doctrinal Declaration, called Proof of Treason:
Quote:If we move into canonical language, as is the case here, we see that there is no difference in the meanings of “legitimate” and “licit” because the liceity of a sacramental act is based on the “legitimacy” of the liturgical law which promulgates it. Thus, one time admitting, as Bishop Fellay has done, that the New Rites have been “legitimately promulgated,” thereby implies that the laws which have “promulgated” them are good, because in Canon Law, for a law to be legitimate, it must be good! And if their promulgation is “legitimate,” nothing prevents their celebration from being licit and good as well [...] All the traditional communities who have rejoined Modernist Rome have passed that way...They began by recognizing the “legitimacy” of the promulgation of the New Rites, then their superiors did not hesitate to concelebrate the New Mass with the Pope, as Dom Gerard, Bishop Rifan, Fr. Wach (Institute of Christ the King), and other have done publicly!.... So, when will Bp. Fellay concelebrate the New Rite with the Pope, if he asks him to do so? (p. 57, no. 7).

Let the truth be told; to call the New Mass “legitimately promulgated” is only a few steps from saying it! It was Abp. Lefebvre, who predicted that the Monastery of La Barroux in France, would celebrate the New Mass in five years after their “Agreement” in 1988. He was proven right! Even worse than that, they took up the defense of the Error of Religious Liberty of Vatican II, writing a thick book in its favor!! They too obviously agreed that Religious Liberty was indeed "limited."


Summorum Pontificum

Bp. Fellay celebrated this “Motu Proprio” in 2007 which blasphemously placed the Catholic Tridentine Mass of two thousand years on an equal level with the New Mass of Abp. Bugnini and stated that the two Rites were “mutually enriching!!” What have been the effects of the New Mass? Thirty-eight years (now in 2022 - fifty-three years) of watering down the Faith - utter catastrophe and apostasy! (cf. See “The Recusant” Issue 56, Autumn 2021, Commentary on “Summorum Pontificum”, p. 31). 

Ten years ago, Vatican II, Part 2 became visible in the ranks of the SSPX. This was a lamentable tragedy! With the help of Our Lady of the Rosary, recovery is possible if the Society leaders:
  • Abolish the ambiguities.
  • Condemn the Doctrinal Declaration of April 15, 2012 and the “Six Conditions” & return to the principle of the General Chapter Decision of 2006 ( No practical/canonical agreement without first the Doctrinal agreement!).
  • Hold the position of Abp. Lefebvre, our Founder: No discussions with Rome until Rome returns to Tradition (in accord with the Papal condemnations of Modernism & Liberalism) and proclaims the Kingship of Christ.
  • No deals with Rome “until we have a perfectly Catholic Pope.”
The Archbishop gave all the necessary guidelines for his Society, if only we had abided by them!
Quote:Archbishop Lefebvre transmitted all that he had received; all the heritage of Fr. LeFloch, from the French Seminary in Rome, all his experience - he left all that to the Society, and it still works, but on condition that we continue the same spirit of combat! It is out of the question of laying down our arms in the middle of the battle. We are not going to look for a treaty while the war is raging, with Assisi III or IV, with the beatification of a false “Blessed” Pope John Paul II; and with Benedict XVI’s continuous demand to accept the Council and the Reforms and the Magisterium after the Council ( Bp. Tissier de Mallerais, Conference at the Gastines Priory in France, September 16, 2012).

If only Bishop Tissier de Mallerais and the Society lived up to these words! Its far worse now. Compromise on doctrine leads to compromise on morals, which explains the Society's failure to condemn the link between abortion and the vaccines. They have indeed laid down their arms. Continue the Catholic Resistance! "Viva Cristo Rey!"

Or perhaps Bishop Fellay is ignorant of Fr. Paul Robinson, SSPX seminary professor, teaching error?

Sadly, the hypocrisy goes unseen and unnoticed! May Our Lady turn the conciliar-SSPX from this disastrous course it is on...

After two years of lies and deceptions, humanity subjugated by the globalist oligarchy is witnessing the last blows of the tail of the Leviathan; and while the truth comes to light from many quarters, revealing the fraud and betrayal of many, it seems to want to unleash itself by imposing increasingly absurd laws, with which to force us into slavery in the name of a health emergency that wants to legitimize the limitation of freedoms fundamental, the segregation of those who do not give in to blackmail, the criminalization of dissenters.

Just as the Virgin wanted to show the pains of hell and damned souls to the little shepherds of Fatima, so too we are shown the model of a hellish society that the globalist elite would like to create on earth. A society without God, without Truth, without Good; in which death, hatred, impiety, vice and sin reign; in which the creature rebels against the Creator.

In the face of a spiritual battle, spiritual weapons are needed. This has been well understood by the thousands of Catholics, especially men, who in various parts of the world have begun to publicly recite the Rosary for the liberation of their homeland. These praiseworthy and courageous initiatives are the beginning of a Christian revival and a rebirth of Faith, as well as a solemn act of veneration towards the Mother of God.

Human forces alone are unable to face the looming threat. For this we must understand how important and irreplaceable is the use of prayer and divine help, with the invincible weapon that the Blessed Virgin Mary has given us to fight the Enemy of mankind.

We beg you to enlighten the hesitant minds of parents, unaware of the consequences of the gene serum on children; to move doctors to treat their patients, and not to carry out cynical ineffective protocols; to shake the rulers, the magistrates and the police to work for the common good, and not to obey dictators without morals. We implore you to convert those who, blinded by the thirst for power and money, they have become accomplices in a very serious crime against God and against those whom His Son redeemed on the Cross. We ask you to convert the Shepherds, to whom the Lord has entrusted his flock and to whom he will ask for an account of every soul. And for this to happen, we implore the forgiveness of our sins and the public sins of the Nations, since only with repentance and the resolve to no longer offend His divine Son can we hope to be heard.

This apostolate has been running for about 16 months now. All Night Adoration takes place in adorers homes every Friday night. Members can choose their time slots or can be allocated a time. Some people can commit only for the first Friday of the month while most commit every week.

Cardiac arrest is very rare for people under 30. Today, 13-year-olds dying from cardiac arrest are pretty common.
The one thing they all have in common: recent vaccination with the COVID vaccines.

Before the COVID vaccines, cardiac arrest = very rare

Before the COVID vaccines, it was very rare for a healthy 13-old-year to die from a heart attack.

After the COVID vaccines, cardiac arrest = not so rare

Now, with the rollout of the COVID vaccines, it is becoming commonplace.

Remember Jacob Clynick, the 13-year old from Minnesota who died of cardiac arrest on June 20, 2021, just 3 days after his second Pfizer shot?

Fast forward 6 months later, there is still no investigation into his death! See this story which appeared in the Defender yesterday. It references emails which indicate that the autopsy had been completed prior to June 28, 2021. Silence from the CDC regarding the cause of death. Seriously?!?!? Jacob dies just 3 days after the jab due to cardiac arrest and six months later, despite the myocarditis link that they admit, they cannot figure this one out? WTF? Where is the accountability?

Ernest Ramirez’s son died of cardiac arrest as well, but he was 16. Dr. Peter McCullough looked at the death records and determined the death was caused by the vaccine. No acknowledgement from the CDC. Again, where is the accountability? Does the CDC have a better qualified expert than Peter McCullough? Did McCullough goof? Well, we don’t know because nobody is talking.

I’m pretty sure there isn’t any accountability left at the CDC. They completely glossed over the fact that the causes of death of the 14 kids (age 12-17) reported in VAERS were totally unusual. Five of the 14 kids died from cardiac arrest. That’s not normal, but they didn’t say anything.


Another 13-year-old bites the dust from cardiac arrest after vaccination

For the record, here’s the latest healthy 13-year-old to die from a heart attack.

Although this happened 6 months after his second shot, as we learned from the Bhakdi study, death from the vaccine can still happen 6 months after the shot. And we learned from that study that unless you know what to look for, the medical examiner is almost sure to miss the cause of death.

How many kids have to die before they acknowledge that the vaccines are killing kids?

I just wanted to memorialize Jack’s death so that it is not forgotten.

I hope that someday, someone will connect the dots and at least acknowledge that these kids were killed by the vaccine. Is that too much to ask?

This is going to keep happening until they halt the vaccines.

As I explained earlier, an estimated 800 kids have been killed by the COVID vaccines to date. We’ve already killed more kids from the vaccines than have died from COVID.

I’m forwarding my article to all of the CDC people involved in investigating Jacob’s death. I doubt I’ll hear anything back. But I wanted to make sure they are aware of all this. For the record.

Pope Francis in Epiphany homily scolds traditional Catholics attached to ‘dead language’

Pope Francis delivered his comments in his Epiphany homily, January 6, in St. Peter’s Basilica.

VATICAN CITY (LifeSiteNews) — In his homily for the feast of the Epiphany on Thursday, Pope Francis once more attacked Catholics attached to the tradition of the Church. He also seemed to contradict the words of St. Paul when describing the Catholic faith.

Delivering his homily for the Epiphany in St. Peter’s Basilica, Pope Francis used the journey of the three Magi as a basis for promoting his personal concept of Catholicism, and for issuing one of his trademark criticisms of traditional Catholics.

The pontiff directly rejected St. Paul’s language of the “shield of faith,” urging Catholics instead to view faith as “a constant and restless movement.”


‘Desire’ must carry Church ‘forward’ away from ‘formal religiosity’

Speaking of the Magi’s “desire” which fueled their journey, Pope Francis attacked Catholics who did not have a desire which “carries us forward.”

“The journey of life and faith demands a deep desire and inner zeal,” he said. “Sometimes we live in a spirit of a ‘parking lot’; we stay parked, without the impulse of desire that carries us forward.”

“We do well to ask: Where are we on our journey of faith? Have we been stuck all too long, nestled inside a conventional, external and formal religiosity that no longer warms our hearts and changes our lives?”

In comments seeming to allude to the Traditional Latin Mass, Pope Francis attacked the liturgical devotees of a “dead language.” “Do our words and our liturgies ignite in people’s hearts a desire to move towards God, or are they a ‘dead language’ that speaks only of itself and to itself?” he asked.

Instead of such “dead” liturgy, Pope Francis pushed for a style of Catholicism filled with “unsettling joy of the Gospel” and moments of being “startled by Jesus.”

“It is sad when a community of believers loses its desire and is content with ‘maintenance’ rather than allowing itself to be startled by Jesus and by the explosive and unsettling joy of the Gospel,” continued the Pope. “It is sad when a priest has closed the door of desire, sad to fall into clerical functionalism, very sad.”


Vatican’s ‘school of desire’ vs St. Paul’s epistles

Presenting a method to follow the Magi’s “school of desire,” Pope Francis appeared to contradict the words of St. Paul in his letter to the Ephesians when referencing faith.

“The Magi teach us that we need to set out anew each day, in life as in faith, for faith is not a suit of armour that encases us; instead, it is a fascinating journey, a constant and restless movement, ever in search of God, always discerning our way forward,” declared the Pontiff.

However, in stark contrast, St. Paul describes faith as the “armor of God,” and calls on Catholics to take up the “shield of faith,” in order to “extinguish all the fiery darts of the most wicked one.”

St. Paul writes:

Quote:Therefore take unto you the armour of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and to stand in all things perfect. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of justice, and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. In all things taking the shield of faith, wherewith you may be able to extinguish all the fiery darts of the most wicked one. And take unto you the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit (which is the word of God).

While the Pope called for Catholics to engage in “a constant and restless movement,” St. Paul urged the members of the Church to “stand against the deceits of the devil” using the imagery of faith as both armor and weaponry.


Faith which unsettles and forges ‘new paths’

Francis continued by urging Catholics to imitate the Magi through questioning, doubling down on his concept of a faith which unsettles.

“Yet let us also be unsettled by the questions of our children, and by the doubts, hopes and desires of the men and women of our time,” he said. “We need to entertain questions.”

“God addresses us more with questions than with answers,” added Pope Francis.

Such a faith which undermines or unsettles would allow Catholics to “take new paths,” added Francis, highlighting how his current multi-year Synod on Synodality promoted such “new paths.”

“The Magi return ‘by another way’. They challenge us to take new paths,” he said.

Here we see the creativity of the Spirit who always brings out new things. That is also one of the tasks of the Synod we are currently undertaking: to journey together and to listen to one another, so that the Spirit can suggest to us new ways and paths to bring the Gospel to the hearts of those who are distant, indifferent or without hope, yet continue to seek what the Magi found: “a great joy” (Mt 2:10). We must always move forwards.

The Synod calls on bishops to listen to lapsed Catholics and non-Catholics as part of the “renewal of the Church proposed by the Second Vatican Council.”

Pope Francis reinforced his message of seeking “new paths” in a subsequent message posted to his official Twitter account, quoting from his homily.


Media attention on the Pontiff’s homily, which also promoted Eucharistic adoration, was focussed on the latest papal attack on traditional Catholics, after a year marked by severe restrictions on the traditional liturgy, in the Pope’s July motu proprio Traditionis custodes and the Vatican’s December Responsa ad dubia.

Reuters reported that the Pope’s homily contained “specific criticism at those who have balked at his decision to restrict the traditionalist Latin Mass,” marking another chapter in the “Church’s ‘liturgy wars’.”

U.K. blogger Mark Lambert blasted the Pope, writing “Does he really think he will convince anyone with this constant self justification?”

SUFFERING: How to Make the Greatest Evil in Our Lives Our Greatest Happiness

Suffering is the great problem of human life. We all have to suffer. Sometimes small sorrows, sometimes greater ones fall to our share. We shall now tell our readers how to avoid much of this suffering, how to lessen all suffering and how to derive great benefits from every suffering we may have to bear.

The reason why suffering appears so hard is that, first of all, we are not taught what suffering is. Secondly, we are not taught how to bear it. Thirdly, we are not taught the priceless value of suffering.

This is due to the incomprehensible neglect on the part of our teachers.

It is surprising how easily some people bear great sufferings; whereas, others get excited even at the smallest trouble.

The simple reason is that some have been taught all about suffering; others have not.


SUFFERING IS NOT THE EVIL WE THINK IT IS

First of all, then, suffering is not simply an evil, for no one suffered more than the Son of God Himself, more than His Blessed Mother or more than the Saints. Every suffering comes from God. It may appear to come to us by chance or accident or from someone else, but in reality, every suffering comes to us from God. Nothing happens to us without His wish or permission. Not even a hair falls from our heads without His consent.

Why does God allow us to suffer? Simply because He is asking us to take a little share in His Passion. What appears to come by chance or from someone else always comes because God allows it.

Every act in Our Lord's Life was a lesson for us. The greatest act in His life was His Passion. This, then, is the greatest lesson for us. It teaches us that we too must suffer.

God suffered all the dreadful pains of His Passion for each one of us. How can we refuse to suffer a little for love of Him?


SUFFERING IS THE GOLD IN OUR LIVES

Secondly, if we accept the suffering He sends us and offer them in union with His sufferings, we receive the greatest rewards. Five minutes' suffering borne for love of Jesus is of greater value to us than years and years of pleasure and joy. The Saints tell us that if we patiently bear our sufferings, we merit the crown of martyrdom.

Moreover, suffering borne patiently brings out all that is good in us. Those who have suffered are usually the most charming people.

If we bear these facts clearly in mind, it certainly becomes much easier to suffer.


GOD ALWAYS GIVES STRENGTH TO BEAR OUR SUFFERINGS

Thirdly, when God gives us any suffering, He always gives us strength to bear it, if we only ask Him. Many, instead of asking for His help, get excited and revolt. It is this excitement and impatience that really make suffering hard to bear.

Consider that we are now speaking of all suffering, even the most trifling ones. All of us have little troubles, pains, disappointments, every day of our lives. All these, if borne for love of God, obtain for us, as we have said, the greatest rewards.


HOW TO BEAR SUFFERING

Even the greater sufferings that may fall to our share from time to time become easy to bear if we accept them with serenity and patience. What really makes suffering difficult to bear is our own impatience, our revolt, our refusal to accept it. This irritation increases our sufferings a hundred fold and, besides, robs us of all the merit we could have gained thereby.

We see some people pass through a tempest of suffering with the greatest calm and serenity; whereas, others get irritated at the slightest annoyance or disappointment. We can all learn this calm and patience. It is the secret of happiness.

An eminent physician, in a conference which he gave to distinguished scientists and fellow doctors, told them that he owed all his great success in life to the simple fact that he had corrected his habit of impatience and annoyance, which had been destroying all his energy and activity.

Everyone, we repeat, without exception, can learn this calm and serenity.


PENANCE

We must all do penance for our sins. If we do not, we shall have long years of suffering in the awful fires of Purgatory. This fire is just the same as the fire of Hell.

Now, if we offer our sufferings the very little ones as well as the greater ones-in union with the sufferings of Jesus Christ, we are doing the easiest and best penance we can perform. We may thus deliver ourselves entirely from Purgatory, While at the same time gaining the greatest graces and blessings.

Let us remember clearly that:

1) Sufferings come from God for our benefit.

2) When we are in the state of grace, we derive immense merit from every suffering borne patiently, even the little sufferings of our daily lives.

3) God will give us abundant strength to bear our sufferings if we only ask Him.

4) If we bear our sufferings patiently, they lose their sting and bitterness.

5) Above all, every suffering is a share in the Passion of Our Lord.

6) By our sufferings, we can free ourselves in great part, or entirely, from the pains of Purgatory.

7) By bearing our sufferings patiently, we win the glorious crown of martyrdom.

Of course, we may do all in our power to avoid or lessen our sufferings, but we cannot avoid all suffering. Therefore, it is clearly necessary for us to learn how to bear them.

In a word, we must understand clearly that if we remain calm, serene and patient, suffering loses all its sting, but the moment we get excited, the smallest suffering increases a hundred fold.

It is just as if we had a sore arm or leg and rubbed it violently; it would become irritated and painful; whereas, if we touch it gently, we soothe the irritation.

We suffer from ill-health, from pains, headaches, rheumatism, arthritis, from accidents, from enemies. We may have financial difficulties. Some suffer for weeks in their homes, some in hospitals or nursing homes. In a word, we are in a vale of tears. Almighty God could have saved us from all suffering, but He did not do so because He knows in His infinite goodness that suffering is good for us.


PRAYER

We have a great, great remedy in our hands, that is, prayer. We should pray earnestly and constantly asking God to help us to suffer, to console us. or if it pleases Him. to deliver us from suffering. This is all, all important.

A very eminent doctor, in an able article he recently published in the secular press, says that "Prayer is the greatest power in the world."

He says, "I and my colleagues frequently see that many of our patients, whom we have failed to cure or whose pains we have failed to alleviate, have cured themselves by prayer. I speak now not of the prayers of holy people, but the prayers of ordinary Christians."

We should above all pray to Our Lady of Sorrows in all our troubles. We should ask her, by the oceans of sorrow she felt during the Passion of Our Lord, to help us.

God gave her all the immense graces necessary to make her the perfect Mother of God, but He also gave her all the graces, the tenderness, the love necessary to be our most perfect and loving Mother. No mother on earth ever loved a child as Our Blessed Lady loves us. Therefore, in all our troubles and sorrows, let us go to Our Blessed Lady with unbounded confidence.
